Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney (217 pages)

I borrowed this from a friend. It was pretty funny, and the illustrations made it even better. Rowley cracked me up; I think he was a bit not right in the head. LOL How the boys lost Independent Study had me laughing out loud!

It was weird funny though, 'cause my BF's name is Greg, I have a friend whose last name is Heffley, a friend who lives on a street called Rowley, a friend named Manny, and I call my dog Bubby as a nickname. Strange!

A good read I would recommend.

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (117 pages)

MissTree loaned this one to me; it's an ARC she picked up at her work. What a wonderful little book. I admit that I had to keep a dictionary handy, as there were more than a few words I encountered that I was unfamiliar with. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. It's funny how all the Queen's advisors got so bent out of shape over her reading. Heaven forbid she start reading and *egad* thinking! I loved the last line of the book - it certainly elicited a giggle from me! :)

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (328 pages)

Interesting fantasy world, although I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't an easy book to be pulled into. I thought Aislinn wasn't fully developed as a character and that the author preferred to give us way too much detail on the faery world than we needed. When the reader finds out that somehow Keenan is responsible for Aislinn's mother's death, I expected to have Grams tell that story, but we never got it, so we are left with questions.

Yay!! I finally finished a book!! After wasting a week on a book I ended up giving up on, and then a few days of barely having time to read just a page or two, I finally finished a book! I really felt like I was in a slump.

Anyway, although I felt this was one of the better Betsy books, I didn't think it was as great as everyone made it out to be. Firstly, the brunt of the book is pretty much all Betsy, without the addition of all her friends. And you know what? Betsy is kind of boring without that interaction. Secondly, the whole killing-Marjorie-saving-Sinclair-Garrett-Antonia-and-Jessica-being-cured thing was a bit too much for me, too "happily ever after" you know? I also wish MJD had explained more about why Derik was so freaked out over BabyJon; and when did he get married? Did I miss an installment somewhere? I thought the vamps and wolves came together in Dead and Loving It but Betsy acted like she didn't know them? I do have a crap memory though, so who knows.

I enjoyed this read. Each story was lighthearted and interesting. I remember reading several Judy Blume books when I was younger, but I don't recall any of them striking such a chord with me that they impacted my life in any way.
